2023 Chevrolet Camaro

Overview

The 2023 Chevrolet Camaro is a gas-powered, rear-wheel drive muscle car, with classic American styling that harkens back to an earlier era. Just one look at both the Camaro coupe and convertible broadcasts the promise of high performance and driving pleasure—at an affordable price, at least for the lower trims. And the 2023 Camaro delivers on that promise, whether the goal is flat-out track racing or negotiating the hairiest switchbacks with aplomb. For drivers salivating for such experiences, the time is now.

The Perfect Ride for…

The driver who appreciates America’s iconic muscle car history and wants to have lots of fun on the road, without paying a fortune. In the class of high-performance cars, the Camaro is by far the most affordable. The cost factor also extends to fuel economy for the four-cylinder base model. The 1LS coupe gets a respectable 30 mpg on the highway (with automatic transmission), decent enough to use as a commuter car. At the same time, that modest engine has plenty of zip, climbing to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds. The acceleration, horsepower, torque, and suspension get better and better with the more expensive trims, maxing out at levels that make the top-of-the-line Camaro a worthy competitor with just about any track slayer.

Drive and Handling

Chevy offers four engines for the 2023 Camaro. Racing aficionados will be happy to know that 6-speed manual transmission is standard for all models. Yes, you can get a 10-speed automatic transmission, but why would you? The 2L Turbo base engine works on four in-line cylinders and generates 275 horses. The 3.6L V6 offers 335 HP and zips up to 60 in 5.4 seconds or less. For the next beefiest engine, the 6.2L LT1 V8, the horsepower goes up to 455 and the acceleration time is as low as 4 seconds. The top engine is the 6.2L LT4 Supercharged V8, with an awesome 650 HP and a jaw-dropping 650 lb-ft of torque. Not surprisingly, it will roar up to 60 mph in as little as 3.5 seconds.

In ascending order of price, the eight trims are the base 1LS, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, LT1, 1SS, 2SS, and ZL1. The base model rides on 18” alloy wheels, has automatic climate control, a 7” touchscreen, and, power driver seats. The next model up offers more options and has a V6 engine as standard. Working up the scale, the 2023 lineup offers bigger touchscreens, bigger wheels, beefier audio systems, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and a full complement of driver assistance technology.

Key Features

The cramped rear seat notwithstanding, the 2023 Camaro has downright comfortable seating up front, with lots of head, shoulder, hip, and leg room. Those seats are well bolstered, too. With the higher trims, they’re heated. The top trim, the ZL1, offers racing-style seats that are both heated and ventilated.

With an iconic performance car like the Camaro, the racing touches are not just for looks. This is a vehicle that walks the walk. The spoilers and wings on the ZL1 serve a clear aerodynamic purpose, every bit as functional as the Brembo brakes, electronic limited slip-differential, Magnetic Ride Control, and heavy-duty cooling system.
