New Engine Options Beef Up the 2018 Equinox
Heritage Chevrolet Buick Owings Mills is pleased to announce that its compact SUV, the 2018 Chevy Equinox, is receiving a newer, gutsier engine option, and a third will join the lineup later this year.
Better, faster, stronger
The 2018 Equinox comes standard with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, rated at 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. The newest addition, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, boasts 252 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, while promising a 0-60 mph time of 7.2 seconds—a second faster than the 1.5-liter engine.
An all-new nine-speed transmission and weight reduction of 400 pounds make the 2018 model a more athletic and agile vehicle, while the larger engine increases the previous 1,000-pound towing capacity to 3,500.
Value-packed performance
The benefits of a larger, more powerful engine come at an additional cost of only $2,795 on the front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive Premier models.* The improved horsepower makes the upgrade perfect for anyone looking to do some light towing in a comfortable yet compact SUV. Both models come with the larger motor, nine-speed automatic transmission, 19-inch wheels, and a dual exhaust.
The front-wheel-drive option, available as the Equinox LT, comes with the same upgrades, (but throws on slightly smaller 18-inch wheels) at a price of $2,395.* The all-wheel-drive Equinox LT trim totals $4,340 because it offers a host of safety features and a few interior upgrades.*
Despite the added costs, you certainly get what you're paying for. The 2018 Equinox 2.0T is a livelier, more capable vehicle that manages to deliver a smooth ride when shifting quickly, while excellent fuel economy rounds out this compact SUV.
Later this summer, a 1.6-liter diesel turbocharged engine will join the lineup and bring 137 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque along with an efficient 40 mpg highway.**
