See the Most Iconic Chevrolet Models
Chevrolet has spent a lot of time pushing the boundaries of the automotive industry, and the results are pretty clear. Over the years, the automaker has created vehicles that not only performed well, but also changed the industry at large. These iconic models became ingrained in the history of the car community when they were first introduced and continue to spark interest years later. The team here at Heritage Chevrolet Buick Owings Mills has put together some of our favorite Chevrolet vehicles throughout the years to celebrate how far the brand has come.
Bel Air
The automaker’s roots in motorsports run deep, and the Chevrolet Bel Air is probably one of the best examples of those roots. In 1955, the Bel Air was used as a pace car for the Indianapolis 500. This year model featured a new “Turbo Fire” V8 block and improved handling. Easily one of the most popular collector cars from the 1950s, the Bel Air embodied automotive style for the time period and served as a benchmark for competitors.
C10
This model signified a shift in the pickup truck market. The C10 was one of the first pickup trucks that focused not just on power and capability, but also comfort and convenience, making the trucks suitable vehicles for both work and play. The classic design used in the 1960s still appeals to many truck enthusiasts, with a square, athletic design that has become timeless. The 4.79-liter inline six-cylinder engine produced 153 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, making it a powerhouse in its day. Over the years, the C10 pickup truck evolved into the Silverado we know and love today.
Corvette Stingray
In an effort to break from the typical rounded design of most sports cars of the time, Chevrolet reinvented the Corvette for the second generation, and thus the legendary Sting Ray was born. The 1963 Sting Ray offered sleek lines and aerodynamic body panels that set it apart from the booming market of exciting vehicles. The Sting Ray wasn’t just a joy to drive, it was a stand-out in every way. Designed for a low center of gravity and featuring new independent rear suspension, the Sting Ray backed up its looks with substantial technology and performance. The Stingray name was brought back in 2014 to celebrate the seventh generation of the Corvette and now the eighth generation is the first year that the Corvette Stingray is equipped with a mid-engine layout.
